Tram Upgrade Works

As part of the ongoing G-class tram upgrade works along routes 57, 59 and 82, the community recently received notification letters advising of planned works along Epsom Road and Maribyrnong Road.
A summary of the works is below:
Epsom Road, Ascot Vale (outlined in attachment 1)
New tram‑vehicle separation:
Installation of separation kerbing between Ascot Vale Road and Union Road to improve safety, reduce collisions and minimise tram service disruptions.
Maintained access points:
All existing entries and exits will remain at Duncan Street, north of Wisewould Street, Sandown Road, Ascot Street, and Portal Street.
Safer speed limit:
Introduction of a 50 km/h speed limit along Epsom Road between Ascot Vale Road and Union Road to enhance safety.
Stop 31 removal:
Tram Stop 31 will be removed to streamline operations and improve tram service efficiency and reliability.
Upgrades at Stops 30 and 32:
Installation of traffic islands, tactile ground surface indicators, new line marking, and signage at:
Stop 30 – Flemington Racecourse
Stop 32 – Sandown Road
Pedestrian improvements:
Enhanced pedestrian refuges at tram stops and crossings to increase accessibility and safety.
Maribyrnong Road, Ascot Vale (outlined in attachment 2)
Consolidation of tram stops:
Stops 40 and 41 on Maribyrnong Road will be merged to improve tram service efficiency and reliability.
New tram stop location:
The new combined stop will be positioned between Walter Street and Epsom Road.
Parking adjustments:
Some parking changes will be made to ensure passengers can safely board and alight from the new G Class trams.
Council officers have been consulted as part of these works and will continue to liaise with DTP to monitor feedback during and following implementation.
